Zookeeping 101

Grades 10-12

You can't get any closer to animals than this! Be ready for a sweat-and-get-dirty adventure at a world class zoological facility. Busch Gardens' seasoned staff will introduce you to the challenges of caring for species such as crocodilians, big cats, great apes, flamingos, and many, many more. Be on the lookout for reticulated giraffes while on safari. Cool off in the pools of Adventure Island. Prepare for fast and furious rides down some of the most thrilling coasters in the Southeast. It's a zoo out here—come join us!

Here are just some of the experiences you can expect:

  • Spend zoo mornings cleaning and preparing habitats, distributing diets, and observing animal behavior training methods
  • Hand feed a giraffe from the back of a flat bed truck
  • Engage in up-close animal encounters
  • Visit the Busch Animal Outpost, an offsite animal holding facility, and tour the Zoo Hospital
  • Explore Busch Gardens' animal exhibits and enhance your conservation knowledge about wildlife at risk during interactive group activities
  • Enjoy all the world class rides, shows, and immersion animal exhibits Busch Gardens and Adventure Island offer

Zookeeping 101 is a 6-night long camp which begins at 12:00PM Saturday morning and ends promptly Friday morning at 9:00AM.  Adventure Camps are fully chaperoned resident camps that include the following amenities:

  • Transportation between Busch Gardens and Tampa International Airport (TPA)
  • All meals and snacks
  • Two Adventure Camps T-shirts and a water bottle
  • Housing at our secure, onsite dormitory, Mzinga Lodge
  • Campers looking for an extended zoo camp can also enroll in Zookeeping 201.

Extend your camper's adventures even further...combine camps!  Get the best of both worlds and combine this program with Careers Grades 10-12 at SeaWorld Orlando.  Transportation is provided between SeaWorld and Busch Gardens. 

Or, combine this program with Zookeeping 201—the additional Friday night between camps is on us.
